Taking painkillers should not be overlooked completely, taken at the right time, and for the right reasons, we encourage anyone to take painkillers under GP advice. However, we disagree with painkillers being prescribed without identifying the root cause of the problem. 

If pain is not addressed, your problem will come back and it will lead to dependency on painkillers. Unfortunately, that’s how people get hooked on them for years only to end up with similar side effects as mentioned above. 

Additionally, physio allows you to be active and healthy again on your terms, at a convenient time, without any fear of the side effects of addiction.

How to choose the right physio and clinic for you:

Hopefully, we convinced you that going to see a physio the next time your back, knee, neck, or shoulder is playing up is a good idea? If so, we want you to know how to pick a good one when you need to. So with that in mind, here are 4 of the most important aspect to look for:

1. Hands-On Treatment

One of the essential aspects of the rehabilitation process, especially when you need immediate relief from things like joint pain and muscle tension, there’s no better way to achieve it than by using expert techniques such as deep-tissue massage. Our patients are assured that at least 85% of their time spent in the treatment rooms will be hands-on. Anything less and we wouldn’t be offering them value for their money.

2. Clinic Location

The physiotherapy clinics are ideally located nearby the gym or sports canter so the rehabilitation treatment complements the in-clinic sessions.  

The physiotherapists will actively encourage you to undertake a gym-based program to complement your physiotherapy treatment, encouraging a quicker return to your daily activities and enjoying what you love. 

The advantage of having a gym right next to our clinic allows us to show patients specific exercises and correct techniques, enabling them to take the information back to their exercise routine. An increasing amount of research is proving the importance of exercise-based sports rehabilitation post-injury, which is even more important after surgeries or serious injuries. 

As a physiotherapy clinic, we are fortunate enough to be located right next to a gym, where we can get our patients straight into strength-based training. Strength training is extremely beneficial in preventing many common injuries, such as back pain, soft tissue injuries (such as hamstring and calf tears), ligament injuries (rolled ankles), and tendon injuries in endurance athletes.

3. Extra Support

Seek a specialist physiotherapist who can provide more support outside the treatment room. Our physios will spend time with you and explain your situation in a language you can understand. Seek a physical therapist who specializes in helping people your age and with your condition. How? By communicating with your physio through an app where they will upload a bespoke series of exercises and track your progress. Above all, you will be recommended deep tissue massage to progress your recovery. Also, you will be recommended specific pain guides to help you keep yourself informed on your condition and prevent it from happening again. 

4. Price and availability

If you’re calling a good physio, you’ll struggle to get an appointment immediately and you should be paying at least £55/£65 per visit for a half-hour session – great hands-on physios are hard to come by because they are so popular. The best indicator you can find is the “how soon” test. As for the investment is going to see a good private physio, the best physio can command a free of anything from £55/£65 for each visit, although results-oriented physios will offer packages and programs that are guaranteed to work.

Expect to pay slightly more for that first session (initial consultation) because it’s the most valuable and it’s where the clever important work is done by the physio – figuring out what’s gone wrong and what to do about it.
